I am tremendously excited to share Mica 1.0 with you. This release represents the culmination of many man-hours of engineering and product development. Mica is the newest addition to the Zaloni family; it is a self-service data preparation platform that enables data cataloging, data discovery, data curation, interactive and visual data preparation, and collaboration for companies who want to democratize access to the Hadoop Data Lake. And it’s got something for everyone. What do I mean by that? If you are an end-user, an administrator, a line of business analyst, or a marketer – really any consumer of data within the organization – the Mica platform makes it possible for you to access the data that you need, when you need it.There are three key points about Mica that relate to the relationship between IT and the business user that I'd like to share with you.
First, Mica provides both IT teams and business-users the tools they need for interactive and visual data preparation. With Mica, business analysts, data scientists, and IT teams can collaborate and effectively govern the end-to-end data management process, using a self-service model, while remaining confident in the quality and integrity of the data.
Second, Mica leverages Bedrock for data organization, metadata management, and execution of transformation logic on the Hadoop cluster. Once the rules have been established within Bedrock, those same rules apply to how data is governed and managed when accessed through Mica.
Third, business users work within an easy-to-use interface to shape and refine their data across the enterprise data catalog. This provides business users with greater access to data, but also reduces the amount of time spent on data preparation tasks, and to actionable insight.
Self-service is key to turning big data into useful business intelligence. Mica provides that and its integration into the Bedrock operational data management platform means that 1 + 1 = 3.
