A large multinational healthcare and pharmaceutical company wanted to build a cloud-based data lake that would provide a data catalog to its lines of business for various analytic use cases. One of the first use cases was to assist the marketing team with customer analytics to improve and create more targeted marketing campaigns.
Challenge: The company needed to build a centralized data catalog for all of the company’s assets from Oasis and marketing data marts with data residing in Amazon S3 and published in Amazon Redshift. The catalog also needed to provide a governance layer to manage access to those assets in a self-service manner.
Solution: With the deployment of the Zaloni Data Platform (ZDP), the company created an enterprise-wide data catalog on top of a data lake in Amazon S3/EMR and used Amazon Redshift to serve as their data mart. With the addition of the Zaloni Data Platform (ZDP) the company was able to auto-discover and inventory, populate, manage, and govern their enterprise-wide data catalog while providing governed access to business users to perform self-service tasks.
Results: The company was able to provide self-service access to business users through an enterprise-wide data catalog which reduced time to insight and improved decision-making across the organization.
